Fading Glory
These purple cone flowers are fading fast. The leftover black ball has been a favorite food of migrating birds, in particular the smaller ones like Vireos.
Speaking of birds ... I also got a shot at one of the American Bittern that has been haunting the watter accesses. There are a few at the park. I've spied one in the rushes gobbling down a small fish a couple of days ago.
Other notes from today: found a number of small holes dug out all generally close to the water - perhaps within 10 feet or so. Could they be snakes? The hole entrance is about that size. Whatever dug them left little mud mounds around the hole entrance. Also found a handsome grasshopper that posed for several pictures. Too cold for him to care too much about hopping away I think. I'll share his picture another time.
Hope you enjoyed!
