Stepping on snow always makes a crunching sound, but today the snow made two kinds of crunch. There is a thin layer of ice on top of the snow, on top of everything actually.
Breaking through that ice layer makes a higher pitched cracking kind of crunch and the sound of snow compressing under weight makes a lower pitched crunch.
Do you see the 'lines' on the snow? They are from twigs that have shed their thin layer of ice!
One other thing of note - Many ducks and other birds out today. I even saw a robin. It seemed out of place. Isn't a robin a sign of spring? A little early for that. ;-)
Hope you enjoyed!
