Peeping Green

Ice is thinning fast on the lake.  And with temperatures not dipping below freezing often, the buds are starting to show a little green.

This little bud is from the willow near the lake.  It is not upside down, the branches dangle like this.  The forest floor is showing signs also that there will soon be blooms.

In some places, the ground is carpeted with these.  And near the marsh, leafing has actually begun on some of the shrubbery. 

A couple new birds of note spotted: 

A Common Grackle and a Red-tailed Hawk.   Also spotted the muskrats and a hooded merganser.
