Wild Cucumbers

Fruit is forming on the wild cucumbers along the marsh road.  Her reaching vines have attached and wrapped around anything near, like the cattails pictured above.   Her prickly pods are not the most inviting.  Protected inside are four seeds.

Enjoy!

Lance-Tipped Darner

Found this Lance-tipped Darner among the cattails along the creek.  The tail is intriguing to me. The nick in the wing tells of an escape.

Enjoy!

Cattail Pollen?

I noticed a fine bright film on the water while on my walk this past Tuesday.  My first thought was algae or something else not good.  Today I saw something that made me think otherwise.  As a Red-Wing Blackbird landed on one the cattails, yellow-green dust proofed up like a cloud.  The cattails are in bloom!  I hear their pollen makes nutritious pancakes.

Enjoy!
