The Japanese Beetles are out in force now. The hot weather brings them. But what is this? A Giant Ladybug? Nope, this is a Grapevine Beetle. (Sometimes called a spotted June beetle.) Though much bigger, they are far less destructive.

Garlic Mustard have been growing along the marsh road. I see more this year than last. Although they are beautiful and their name sounds tasty - they are on the DNR Prohibited list. I understand some people help out by eating them.

These delicate purplish beauties are the flowers of a Creeping Bellflower. She isn't native, but a 'garden escapee. She grows along the creek path near the first bench. She spreads through her roots and can be hard to remove.

A large yellow iris-like flower is blooming on the lake shore near the playground. This is the only yellow iris in the United States. Even so, this Pale Yellow Iris is considered an invasive species. It can form large colonies that choke out native plants. This flower is sometimes called 'Yellow flag'.
