Evidently, someone is making an effort to re-channel the water path through this area - probably for reason related to the utility and communication towers that are in the marsh area.
While walking the service road, I found a nice population of poplar trees. Some are more healthy than others. This one shows signs of rot.
It looked kind of pretty from a distance, the colors blend into the tree trunk. This shot is of higher up the tree trunk, maybe 20 feet or so. A website identifies this as Phellinus igniarius - more commonly known as false tinder polypore. There are many signs of decay along this small nature path. Sometimes decay has a beauty all its own.
Hope you enjoyed!
