Early morning a female common snapping turtle was busy near the creek path. She was laying her eggs. Her young have many predators nearby. She herself can be 'harvested' by humans once her carapace length is greater than 30.5 cm (12 in.) Many people think turtle meat is tasty. I remember eating turtle as a child in Southeastern MN.
Enjoy!

Great photographs, Robin! How fortunate you were to be able to watch her lay her eggs. I've only seen Snapping Turtles in the water before. I hear they have quite a grip!
