I've been anticipating many things while waiting for the season to progress. This week I've been especially watchful for turtles. This one is a little smaller than a baseball.
These turtles are Western painted turtles. Normally they come out of hibernation in March. This was my first sighting this year. This one was larger, about the size of a pancake.
It looks like they are watching for me too!

Very much enjoyed, thank you! They are so cute, of course I like the babies the best. I thought I'd do a favor for one big painted turtle once and move it off the walkway, but it peed on me :( It's a better experience to look than to pick up.
ReplyDeleteYou are welcome! Not a good idea to handle those turtles if you can avoid it. My internet information sources strongly suggest washing well after handling to avoid things like Salmonella. I'm happy to take the pictures instead! ;)
