"Bee"zy Place!

The Bassett Creek Regional Trail Extension project has closed more of the park down, including both bridges.  This has not stopped the other busy workers at the park.  











From bees to ambush bugs, the park it quite the busy place.

The Bumble Bee Express

The park is a busy place right now.  The road is anything but express as the construction workers are busy digging and moving dirt.  One place where there is no transportation issue is among the flowers.  At first glance, it looks like this bumble bee is being hurt by, or at the least annoyed by its passengers (bee mites), but a little internet digging told they are harmless and more interested in a ride to the next flower.

Labor Day Overflow

The grasshoppers are nearly all grown up now.  When they fly, they really fly and might be mistaken for a moth or butterfly.  This one found a place to rest under a patch of flowers.  Butterflies and bees shared his place.

Lewis and Clark: Canadian Milkvetch

Patches of Canadian Milkvetch are opening along the creek bed.  This plant was included in the Lewis and Clark Journals.  Here is what they had to say: 

This is a widespread perennial legume that, unlike many other species of Astragalus, is nonpoisonous. The Omaha-Ponca tribe used the dried pods as rattles; the Lakotas chewed the roots to relieve chest pains and made a root decoction to treat fever in children.
