Constrictors?

Overcast day with the sun peeking occasionally and drips here and there.  I was hoping to see a rainbow, but couldn't find it.  I did find a rather busy fellow among the purple asters.  Another ... 'never seen one of these before'.  

His formal name is Trichordestra Legitima, but his common name is stripped garden caterpillar.  He looked rather exotic to me.  Like a snake constricting the bloom for its dinner!   Not the only constrictor-like guy  found on this day.  Seems weeds can appear to be every bit as violent between themselves.
