There are some sweet clovers starting to bloom among the rocks on the creek side.
Yellow Sweet Clover. I caught ants after sweets as well.
The tiny bugs with the ants are aphids. The aphids suck the sweet sap from the plant, then excrete something called 'honeydew'. The ants take care of the aphids they protect them from predators and harvest the honeydew by milking them. Brings new meaning to the term 'ant farm.' ;-)
Found a spider in the marsh area too. He was resting on a pea-like flower.
The flower grows up among the grasses and other marsh plants. A Marsh Vetchling, or Marsh Pea.
Hope you enjoyed!
