Autumn is slipping away.  It is a good time to take some time and appreciate the color reflections.  Before the season flies away.

Fall Buzz

Although the temperatures have dipped, they have not deterred fall bees and wasps!  The hive is behind the flower bed near the bus stop.  I saw no activity when this photo was taken, but  I hear that peppermint oil is an excellent wasp repellent.

Autumn Leaves Starting to Fall

It seems there isn't a tree that hasn't started changing for fall.  Autumn leaves have begun to fall.

Coneflower Prepping for Fall

Coneflowers are fading fast.  This one has de-colorized from pink to vermellion.   Others are deteriorating.  All make nice resting places for insects like Katydids and grasshoppers.  Soon the petals will fall and the brown spiky flower heads will be good food for migrating birds.

Summer is burning up.  Fall is igniting.

The Shedding Tree

There is a tree at the park that has started shedding.  The needles have colored like the other trees and are thinning.  Don't worry, it isn't dying.    This a Tamarack tree, the one conifer in Minnesota that sheds her needles every winter.

Fall Falling

Snow on Tuesday remained for a few days.  The weight of the snow on the leaves, the cold temperatures and the brisk winds since have blown most trees bare.  Fall has fallen.  I know what I will be doing this week-end!

Sunday Best

Colors were brilliant early morning on Sunday.  The air was crisp, the grass that was not touched by the sun was still frosty.  After the winds yesterday afternoon, trees are looking thinner.  I was glad to be out early before many more of the leaves fell.

From milkweeds to goldenrod to asters, many are releasing their fall fuzz.

Overcast Autumn Day

Overcast with a forecast of more wind and rain as the day goes by.  The lake landing has a beautiful view reflecting more color, but the wind is starting to make some of the trees bare.

Wild Cucumbers

Fruit is forming on the wild cucumbers along the marsh road.  Her reaching vines have attached and wrapped around anything near, like the cattails pictured above.   Her prickly pods are not the most inviting.  Protected inside are four seeds.

Snow

Thanksgiving ended with a windy nudge into the next season.

Houses Old and New

After the leaves fall, hidden things become revealed.  This nest can be found in a tree near the first bridge along the creek path.

Within the lake and along the shoreline two new houses have been added as well.  Hopefully the wood ducks and mergansers will take advantage of this new housing opportunity in the spring.

Silver and Gold

Many of the White Poplar leaves have turned gold.  Yet, they are still silver on the underside.

Black, then White

There are small patches of black along the creek path.  These are patches of Wild White Indigo.  The plants springing from her seeds will be milky white in the spring.

Color Me Fall

Something about the on and off drizzles of the last few days has awakened color in the last remnants of leaves.  Looking close is like looking at pixels of color.

Fall Landscape

The foggy and wet didn't last long and Sunday afternoon brought weather perfect for raking leaves.  The precipitation was not enough to replenish the low water levels at local ponds and lakes.  Rain will come.  Eventually.  But for now...
