Duck Duck ... Muskrat!

There was commotion at the creek this morning.  Ducks haven't migrated yet.  Muskrats are antsy about it and ready to chase!  Like a game of Duck Duck ... Muskrat.
Enjoy!

Spring Challenges

This hardy little guy crossed the lake outlet at least twice this evening.  Aside from the swift current, there are still large chunks of ice to navigate.  Spring holds some challenge for a muskrat.

Coming Back

Spring is moving forward and the ducks and geese are leading the way.  Familiar whistles of Mallard wings can be heard at the park often now.  Muskrats can be seen near the open water along the creek shores.  And green things are just starting to open their way through the dead leaves of winter.

Greener On the Other Side

When approaching the lake outlet this morning, I heard a plop-splash.  A muskrat must have thought it was greener on the other side of the lake outlet.  He was enjoying a nice water-plant breakfast.

Muskrat Heaven

The warmth of July has caused an overgrowth of weeds.  The muskrats are happy.  Watch for the consistent ripples in the water - there might be a muskrat!

Mean while, Near the Bridge ...

Perhaps I should say UNDER the bridge.  Barn swallows are busy with nests.  See the mud nest at the top of the photo just left of the lit beam?  If you look carefully, you can see one flying in the shadow on his way out.

Below the bridge, a muskrat was gathering.

Lots of sunshine.  Hope you had a chance to ...

Enjoy!
