Early November Snow

Today the snow picked up again.  The white lines in the above tree line are falling snow.  The weather has been cold and snowy for the past week.  Time to unpack the long johns and legwarmers!

Fungi Feast (Not!)

Found a new fungi today (above).  New for me anyway.  It is called Black Jellyroll, or Witches Butter.  Also found some Burnt Cake (side).  And ... Turkey Tail (below).  Almost sounds like a delicious trio - but don't - they are NOT edible.

Black, then White

There are small patches of black along the creek path.  These are patches of Wild White Indigo.  The plants springing from her seeds will be milky white in the spring.

Oriole Arias

Ever try to imitate some of the bird songs you hear?  It is fun to try.  This bird seems to have a melodic yet changing repertoire.  The one I was trying to copy was different from any recorded here.  


This colorful bird is a Baltimore Oriole.

Admiring Admirals

Along the marsh road I followed a Red Admiral a little while.  The butterfly posed  nicely for me.  As I walked along, it seemed like he was following me and wanted me to take more photos.  Closer observation revealed there were a NUMBER of Admirals sunning themselves not just this one.
