Baseball Chatter?

You might hear chatter at the bleacher seats, but not baseball chatter just yet.  And temperatures are too cold to get water from the fountain.  But, not to worry, the backfield fences are holding up just fine and they will be there for you come spring.

 Enjoy!

Temperatures Dip

Frost on Dandelion

Freezing temperatures frosted some of the landscape this morning.  The lake is mostly frozen over.  There is open water along the edges.

Stay warm and enjoy!

Early November Snow

Today the snow picked up again.  The white lines in the above tree line are falling snow.  The weather has been cold and snowy for the past week.  Time to unpack the long johns and legwarmers!

Enjoy!

Caught a Coot

The lake ice melted away over the weekend.  Caught an American Coot on camera today.  The coot is not exactly a duck - rather more like a sand crane.

This afternoon has been cold (less than 40F) and windy - dipping below freezing in the night.  There is snow in the forecast.

Bundle up and enjoy!

Muskrats Back

I was beginning to wonder about these guys.  Unlike beaver, who store food for the winter, Muskrats have to forage for food through the winter.

But today, two couples were flirting along the creek.

Enjoy!

Deep and Drifted

January and February have been cold, snowy and windy.  Lots of drifting snow.  The walking path is  starting to fill with drifted snow.  I read that in a week or two, the temperatures will climb above freezing again.  Looking forward to that!

Bundle up and stay warm!

P.S. - did someone lose a glove?  It is pinned up on a telephone pole on Boone Avenue near 40th Street.

Snow Tires

This is the first day in over two weeks that I could get out.  Cold and camera don't mix so well.  ;)

For those coming home from warmer places, thought this play on words might be a fun memory of Minne-so-cold Christmas norms.  It looks we can expect a white Christmas!

Powdered Path

Late night snowfalls turned out to look like just a small powdering the next morning at the park.

Stay warm and enjoy!

Rainy, Cold, and Huddled

It has been rainy and cold for a couple of days now.  Found these little mallard ducklings are huddled along the shore.  It should warm soon.

Enjoy!

Cold

Under the pine trees the snow is not that deep.  But don't let the shallow snow deceive you, we are running five degrees or more below average.  The lake has hockey-sized areas cleared off and this afternoon a few families could be seen enjoying them.

Bundle up and enjoy!

Tender Shades of Purple

Icicles have formed on a stick where the lake outlet drains to the creek.  And although temperatures have completely glazed over both the lake and the creek, some tender shades of purple can still be found.

Enjoy!

Blankets on a Cold Day

The day was mostly grey and colder.  But ended with blue showing through the blankets of clouds.

Frosted Rattlesnake Master

Early morning left a thin layer of ice edging the creek banks.  Suns first light lit sparkling crystals on the plants nearby.  This one is a Rattlesnake Master covered with nicely formed crystals.

The sun should light up the fall colors nicely today.  Bundle up and enjoy!
